# How to Record the ESP

> Configure AMD Adrenalin or the NVIDIA App to capture the cheat overlay alongside your gameplay.

By default, GPU recording software captures only the active game window, which excludes the Proofcore overlay. Enabling **Desktop Capture** allows the recording to include the ESP and all other on-screen visuals.

<Note>
  Pick the section below that matches your GPU brand. The steps differ between AMD and NVIDIA.

## AMD GPUs

If you are running an AMD graphics card, use the **AMD Adrenalin** software to enable desktop recording.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install AMD Adrenalin">
    Download and install the latest **AMD Adrenalin** software from the official site:

    <Card title="Download AMD Adrenalin" icon="download" href="https://www.amd.com/en/products/software/adrenalin.html">
      Get the latest AMD Adrenalin software
    </Card>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Record & Stream Page">
    1. Launch **AMD Adrenalin**.
    2. Click the **Record & Stream** button at the top of the window.
    3. Navigate to the **Settings** page within that section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable Record Desktop">
    Toggle the **Record Desktop** option **ON**.

    <Info>
      This is the key setting. Without it, the overlay will not appear in your recordings.
    </Info>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Switch Capture Source">
    1. Click the **Record** tab.
    2. Find the **Controls** section.
    3. Change the source from **Active Window** to the **display your game runs on**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Done">
    You can now configure the rest of your recording preferences (bitrate, resolution, hotkeys, etc.). The ESP and all other visuals will appear in your recordings.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## NVIDIA GPUs

If you are running an NVIDIA graphics card, use the **NVIDIA App** with desktop capture enabled.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install the NVIDIA App">
    Download and install the latest **NVIDIA App** from the official site:

    <Card title="Download the NVIDIA App" icon="download" href="https://www.nvidia.com/en-eu/software/nvidia-app/">
      Get the latest NVIDIA App
    </Card>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable the NVIDIA Overlay">
    1. Open the **NVIDIA App**.
    2. Go to the **Settings** page.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Overlay">
    Press the default hotkey **`ALT + Z`** to open the NVIDIA Overlay.

    <Tip>
      If the hotkey does nothing, double-check that the overlay is enabled in the NVIDIA App settings, then restart the app.
    </Tip>
  </Step>

    <Info>
      Just like the AMD method, this tells the recorder to capture the entire desktop instead of only the game window — which is what allows the overlay to be seen in playback.
    </Info>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Done">
    You can now adjust the rest of your recording settings as you like. Your ESP and all other visuals will now show up in your recordings.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Why This Is Required

<Warning>
  **The overlay is rendered outside the game window.** Standard "Active Window" or "Game Capture" modes only record the game itself, which is why the ESP is invisible in your clips by default.

  Switching to **Desktop Capture** records everything on the screen — including the Proofcore overlay.
</Warning>

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Recordings still don't show the ESP">
    * Make sure **Desktop Capture** (NVIDIA) or **Record Desktop** (AMD) is enabled — not just the regular game capture.
    * Confirm the **correct monitor** is selected as the capture source if you use a multi-monitor setup.
    * Restart the GPU software after changing the setting.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Overlay or hotkey doesn't open (NVIDIA)">
    * Re-open the NVIDIA App and verify **NVIDIA Overlay** is toggled ON.
    * Make sure no other application has hijacked `ALT + Z`.
    * Update the NVIDIA App to the latest version.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="No 'Record Desktop' option (AMD)">
    * Update **AMD Adrenalin** to the latest version.
    * Old **Radeon Software** versions don't include this feature — install Adrenalin instead.
